I’m here to express myself, get back to writing poetry, and to inspire us to think about how we can heal our relationships with each other and the Earth.

Who am I?
I am an award-winning global humanitarian, author, educator, non-profit leader, TEDx speaker, podcast host, and yogi. In the year 2000, I co-founded One Common Unity (OCU), a non-profit organization that heals cycles of violence and trauma through social-emotional literacy, conflict transformation, mindfulness, mental health, and arts programming. During my time as Executive Director, OCU impacted over 40,000 youth and families in Washington, DC. Most recently, I helped launch Roots to Sky Sanctuary a 125-acre regenerative farm and healing arts center situated in northern Appalachia where he serves as a Managing Partner. Prior to that I was a representative to the U.N. World Conference Against Racism and the Director of Peaceable Schools at the largest public high school in Washington, DC.
Over the years, I’ve been interviewed by XM National Satellite Radio, BBC, CNN, ABC, NPR and Al-Jazeera for my innovative approaches to peace building. I have also spoken on stage alongside personalities such as: Tavis Smiley, Sonia Sanchez, Nikki Giovanni, Dick Gregory, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, and Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.
In my spare time I enjoy: finding new foods to mix with chocolate, climbing trees and buildings, doing handstands on furniture, hiking through mountains with flip flops, body surfing ocean waves, making animal sounds and bird calls, enjoying a glass of wine at high altitude, lighting candles in dark rooms and traveling.
